Confessions of a engineering student

I am an engineering student.

When I meet new people and they ask the inevitable: So what are you studying in school? My response is usually greeted with an OOOOOO and AHHHH. Exclamations of my intelligence and nods of approval from the parental units. But in my own head it isn't really all that glamorous. Let's start with the reasons why I chose to come to an engineering school and major in engineering:

  1. Financial security
  2. Passion Yeah not really.
I know that when it comes to my major I should be following my heart and not job prospects, but unfortunately more often than not, college students rising out of the American middle-class are being hit by reality and finding themselves in a tight situation between following their dreams vs. practicality.

If I had no responsibilities or worries for the future, would I have chosen engineering as my major? Probably not.

And I am the proud mother of two of the cutest little cockatiels. But really, I'm just a millennial learning how to live life in this big, big world. It is very nice to meet you.
